The collaboration between Le Dimore del Quartetto and FAME’S Institute was born from a shared commitment to support the artistic growth of emerging ensembles and to promote excellence in chamber music on an international level. At the heart of this partnership is an immersive residency project that combines education, artistic creation, and professional production.
The program is designed for string quartets and piano trios within the Le Dimore del Quartetto network and offers a unique experience, conceived to support ensembles at a crucial stage in their development. During the residency, musicians have the opportunity to work in a highly qualified environment, where teaching activities intertwine with performance practice and the recording process.
The structure of the program alternates between moments of sharing and teaching—through interactive chamber music masterclasses led by the ensemble in residence—and professional recording sessions at FAME’S Institute studios. This approach enables ensembles to strengthen their artistic skills, develop a deeper interpretative awareness, and gain direct experience in studio work.
A distinctive feature of the project is the integration of the educational dimension with music production: the teaching activity carried out by the ensembles is enhanced through the creation of high-quality professional recordings, providing musicians with concrete tools for their promotion and artistic dissemination.
The logistical and technical support provided by FAME’S Institute—including accommodation, workspaces, specialized assistance, and state-of-the-art recording facilities—ensures the ideal conditions for an intensive and highly formative experience.
This collaboration represents a virtuous model of international synergy, successfully combining education and production, and making a significant contribution to the development of the next generation of chamber music ensembles.
The first edition of the project features the Vivancos Quartet.
In the first phase, in September 2025, the quartet will lead chamber music masterclasses for student ensembles from the FAME’S Institute, Quartet Nemea, and Quartet Luscofusco, combining educational activities with open rehearsals and direct exchange sessions. Special attention will also be given to studio work and the recording process.
In the second phase, in December 2025, the quartet will undertake the professional recording of its repertoire in a highly specialised context, including String Quartet No. 8 in C minor, Op. 110 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The protagonist of the second edition of the project, scheduled for September 2026, is the Kyan Quartet.
As in the previous edition, the residency is structured in two phases: the first is dedicated to masterclasses and educational activities with student ensembles from the FAME’S Institute, while the second focuses on professional recording sessions carried out with the support of a specialized technical team.
From Vivancos, we have amazing memories of this experience. On the one hand, being able to learn some quartets together with other students was great in many ways. If playing something helps you learn about the piece and music in general, we would say that helping other groups from outside takes you even further. Because you not only have to understand the music but also learn how to help others evolve this music, and of course it is easier to see if something works or doesn’t from outside than from inside. Realizing this changes the way you understand music. On the other hand, recording was a great experience. Not only because we were lucky to work with great professionals and amazing people from Fame’s, but also because living the process of recording a whole piece professionally was a huge challenge. Not only because it is psychologically hard to face reality like that, but also because having to build the whole piece in a non-natural way (as it is not live music) and trying to make it make sense in all terms is not easy work. But again, it was great and easier thanks to the wonderful team who worked with us. So, at the end, what we feel we need to say is thank you. Thank you to all Fame's team and also, of course, to all Le Dimore team for giving us this wonderful present.
