Set on two floors in a twelfth century as a fortified farm, this house was once intended as a Lombard fortress to guard the fertile Arno Valley around Florence. Today it is the perfect holiday home rental for up to 5 persons with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
When the new owners took over Villa Lysis, they began a slow but careful restoration bringing to light many of the original Tuscan architectural accents that make this accommodation so special: frescoes, wooden beamed ceilings, stone walls, brick vault, and cotto floors. Add the use of soft colors, antique furnishings and many little decorative highlights that make this not just a vacation rental, but a home away from home. They even found a secret vault and unearthed several antiques that now grace the interior of the holiday rental.
The entrance to Villa Lysis opens to a cosy living room with fireplace, comfortable sofas and direct access to the private garden area. There is a bedroom on the ground floor with a lovely large single sleigh bed, romantic and inviting. The medieval cellar boasts stone walls, a curved vaulted ceiling and has been transformed into an area to enjoy the local wines in a suggestive setting. The dining room has a table for six with a fireplace and garden view. The eat-in kitchen makes excellent use of the architectural structure and is furnished with a stove and oven, microwave, American coffee maker, refrigerator and a complete collection of utensils and accessories for preparing your favorite Italian meal.
The recently renovated 18th century Chapel, next to the Villa, can host events, cerimonies and small concerts.
