Villa Belgiojoso Brivio Sforza is the most sumptuous example of aristocratic villa in Brianza, Lombardy. In the past it hosted also Gioacchino Rossini.
It was built by the marquises Villani Novati in the XVII century and then reworked in the second half of the XVIII century by the Belgiojoso family.
The villa’s rooms are decorated with frescoes and stuccos, and there is an ancient library. The villas is surrounded by a magnificent garden, and is located in front of the public park of Merate, the Parco del Cannocchiale.
Villa Belgiojoso Brivio Sforza is currently the headquarter of the Foundation of the same name, whose mission is preserving  and enhancing the historic, cultural and artistic heritage of the families Brivio Sforza, Trivulzio e Barbiano di Belgiojoso d’Este. The Foundation also encourages cultural studies and initiatives, linked to the history of the families involved.
