Velvet Quartet was founded in 2020 by four young musicians from Turkey, Latvia, Russia and Catalonia. They play a unique quartet crafted from the same tree by Stefan-Peter Greiner, one of the greatest violin makers of our time.

“Their interpretations of Mozart’s Quartet KV 421 in D minor and Schubert’s Quartet No. 14 in D minor already reveal a rare seriousness and musicality, an astonishing palette of dynamic nuances and colours, and, above all, a precision of bowing that usually comes only to ensembles of great maturity, after years of work.”

Numerous prizes in competitions and scholarships accelerated the Velvets’ rise including the concert series by the “Best of North-Rhine Westphalia” project and participation in the Vibre! String Quartet Festival Residency in Bordeaux 2023, as well as appearances in the 10th String Quartet Biennale of the Philharmonie de Paris.
They have already performed on the international stage and have been featured on the german radio WDR. In addition to master classes with world class chamber musicians such as the Artemis Quartet, Alban Berg Quartet, Kuss Quartet, Cuarteto Casals and Quatuor Ébène, the quartet now studies with Andreas Reiner at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen and Gregor Sigl at the University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany.
Recently, they were awarded membership in the “Le Dimore del Quartetto” program following their successful participation in the “Jeunesses Musicales” International Chamber Music Campus in Weikersheim, Germany in 2023.
In addition to actively engaging with the classical string quartet repertoire, the quartet has worked on many different musical concepts from the very beginning, such as performing living composers and creating interdisciplinary projects.
In the upcoming season they will premiere in a grande dance production in collaboration with the renowned Aalto-Theater Essen, alongside the performers in a piece called “LAST” created by two acclaimed young choreographers redefining the fusion of music and movement.

Perfect interplay, the greatest desire for tonal unity, and the endlessly inspiring exploration of the string quartet’s unique repertoire. This is the present and
future of the Velvet Quartet.
