The Turicum String Quartet was founded in 2021 at the Zurich University of the Arts. Within a few months, they were awarded the Kiwanis Music Prize. Since then, they have achieved significant milestones, including their debut at Tonhalle Zurich, performances at the Mizmorim Festival with the renowned Gringolts Quartet, and a concert series for Villa Musica in Germany.

In 2023, the Turicum Quartet won second prize at the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition. Their highly acclaimed performance was livestreamed worldwide by MediciTV, and they were featured in The Strad and The Violin Channel.

In July 2024, the Turicum Quartet will serve as the Quartet in Residence at the Ticino Musica Festival. They are very grateful for the support and guidance of Ilya Gringolts (Gringolts Quartet), Axel Schacher (Belcea Quartet), Markus Fleck (casalQuartet), and Hariolf Schlichtig (Cherubini Quartet).

The name “Turicum” is derived from the ancient Roman name for Zurich, where the quartet was founded.

“They captured the misty atmosphere of the music perfectly, highlighting the beauty of the melodies and various colors. Every note was well thought out and meticulously executed, showing a deep understanding of the music. Even the densest parts in terms of texture and harmony were played with remarkable clarity.” — Julia Broniowska, Blog Szymanowski Competition
