Grigio da Barberino di Val d’Elsa, forefather of the Griccioli (formerly Gricia) family, was born in 1345. The Griccioli had an important role within the Repubblica di Firenze since the XIV century, and then moved to Siena in 1720.
The Griccioli family owns the marvellous Tenuta di Montechiaro where, after a passionate modernisation of the estate, are currently produced high-quality and biologic Tuscan wines and an excellent olive oil.
The Tenuta di Montechiaro, 10 km from Siena, covers 160 hectares of land, including 10 vineyards and 2000 olive plants. The farmhouses of the estate are rented during the summer season.
It was built in the XVIII century by the Bianchi Bandinelli family and then was inherited from mother’s side by the Griccioli family.
