ECEM EREN, viola

An ensemble of young musicians from diverse backgrounds with a single goal: to make music together and be moved by playing. Enthusiastic and determined, the quartet represents a New Beginning for them.

The New Era Quartet was founded in 2021 at the “Giuseppe Tartini” Conservatory in Trieste. The members are Kristina Mlinar, Teodora Kaličanin, Ecem Eren, and Alessandro Pietro Dore, hailing from Serbia/Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Turkey, and Italy. They quickly gained recognition in various national and international competitions.

They have won numerous awards, including the 3rd Prize and Special Prize (invitation to the festival in France “Musique et Patrimoine en Vienne et Gartempe”) at the International Chamber Music Competition “Giulio Rospigliosi” in 2023; winner prize at “Premio Nazionale delle Arti” in 2023, representing the Tartini Conservatory of Trieste; 1st Prize at the “Lilian Caraian” Music Prize XXXVI Edition in January 2024; the “Premio Giovani Eccellenze” for Chamber Music awarded in Trieste in April 2024 by Archduchess Herta Margarethe of Austria, Founder and President of the “Flame of Peace” Association.

They made their debut in 2022 with concerts for the music series of the Ensemble Serenissima Association “Concerti a Palazzo” in Sacile, “Concerti Estivi” in Grado, “I concerti del Conservatorio” at the “Giuseppe Tartini” Conservatory in Trieste, the “Festival di Trieste – Il Faro della Musica” organized by the Trieste Concert Society, a concert organized by Le Dimore del Quartetto at Villa Marchese de Fabris in Gorizia, and “Corde in Armonia al Sarto” at the Sartorio Museum, organized by the Chamber Music Trieste Association.

The quartet debuted in France in August 2023, touring and giving three successful concerts with the kind support of the Fortecello duo, the “Musique et Patrimoine en Vienne” Association, and the “Hors Saison Musicale” Association.

Teodora Kaličanin and Ecem Eren play instruments made by Martin Horvat, adding a distinctive note to their performance thanks to the great support of Margarete Smonik and Christella Giselbrecht. They are currently studying at the “G. Tartini” Conservatory in Trieste, the city that brought them together, with Alberto Franchin (Quartetto Nous) and are further refining their skills through masterclasses held by Sergio Lamberto and lessons at the Stauffer Academy with the Quartetto di Cremona.

In 2022 the ensemble has been selected to join the Le Dimore del Quartetto network.
