PODERE MARELLA, CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO (PG)

Categories , ,

Podere Marella is a working organic wine estate on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, in the vicinity of Lake Trasimeno. The property is set in the midst of vineyards, olive trees and mature oak woodland – an oasis of privacy and tranquillity far from the crowds and yet within very easy reach of shops, transport links and the area’s numberless attractions. The house, which dates back to the 18th century, has been carefully renovated to the highest standards, while preserving the character and atmosphere typical of the old Umbrian farmhouse, with exposed beams and a large fireplace. A private court, a pool with a fully equipped pool house and a natural fishing pond lie within the grounds for the exclusive use of Podere Marella’s guests.

THE PROPOSALS OF PODERE MARELLA

The XVIIIth century farmhouse, completely renewed using traditional techniques and materials, hosts international guests offering an oasis of relaxation and an ideal base to explore one of the culturally richest regions of the world.

It can hosts up to 12 people in 3 suites and 2 double rooms, all with private bathroom and located on the first floor. The House is surrounded by an informal garden which offers quiet and shaded corners, a large paved area ideal for children’s games, and an ancient shed where to dine, read or take a nap in full relaxation.

The infinity pool is surrounded by a solarium in stone and wood, with a large and comfortable staircase that leads into the water. Immediately next there is the pool house, result of the conversion of what once was a garage for tractors, that during summer becomes the heart of the farmhouse. It includes a lounge area, a bar counter / kitchenette, a professional electric barbecue, tables and chairs to dine by the pool, showers and a changing room.
A little further there is a great tennis court, surrounded by secular oaks, that can be used year-round.

A few hundred meters away from the house there is a small natural lake that is a true paradise for fishermen. If you are a fishing enthusiast, make sure to bring your gear!

Fiammetta Inga, mother of the current owner, moved to Podere Marella in 1974 and began the production of wine shortly afterwards, creating one of the first Italian organic cellars. Forty years later, the company continues the production of wine in which the pursuit of quality is central: the manual harvest, the rigorous selection of the grapes and the supervision of the French winemaker Jean Natoli guarantee excellence and continuous improvement.

COSIMO BISIACH

In 1974 Fiammetta Inga, a young woman who grew up in Liguria, Piedmont and Lombardy, after selling the lands inherited from her grandfather in Val Padana, moved from northern Italy to Podere Marella, founding what later became one of the first organic wineries in Italy. At the time, few were interested – or even aware – of the environmental problems and the existence of organic farming; her approach was therefore immediately seen as eccentric and uneconomic. Over the decades, she never stopped working to improve the quality of her wines, winning important prizes along her path. Perhaps only today it is clear to us how visionary and enterprising she was in her business idea. In 2008 Fiammetta retired from the business and today the winery and the farm are managed by her son Cosimo and his wife, with unchanged passion, enthusiasm and essential attention to quality in the production of wines that are first of all good, but also respectful of the territory and the principles of organic production.
