Winner of the Beethoven Prize at the 2nd International Beethoven Chamber Music Competition in 2017, the Fitzroy Quartet was formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2014. They are currently ‘Associate Ensemble’ at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where they are studying with Oliver Wille. In 2017 they were invited to become artists on the Belcea Quartet Charitable Trust where they are now receiving tuition from members of the Belcea Quartet. They have also received masterclasses from Garfield Jackson and David Waterman of the Endellion String Quartet, Levon Chillingirian, Martin Outram and Christoph Richter. The quartet participates also in the ProQuartet European Chamber Music Academy.
The quartet has received many awards and prizes including the St Peters Eaton Square Prize, the Wolfe Wolfinssohn Prize and the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Prize, and reached the final of Royal Overseas League Competition in 2017.
The quartet performs regularly across the UK: they gave their Wigmore Hall Debut in 2017 and have also performed at St Martin-in- the-Fields, St James Piccadilly and in the Egerton, Lake District, Musicale and Petworth Music Festivals. Moreover, they have already held concerts in France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Poland and South Africa. They have been named as Tunnell Trust award winners for 2019/20 during which season they will tour Scotland.
