The Château de Saint Loup, built between 1845 and 1848, was designed by Louis Visconti, who was “l’architect de l’empereur” , the architect of the emperor, and with its park is classified “Monument Historique”, the French national trust, by the French government.
The house is situated in a 25 hectare park in the countryside of the Nièvre, department of the Burgundy. The interiour is well preserved so all original details and ornementations are still in place. The former “salle de reception”, the banquet hall, is now the music room and available for rehearsals and study. It is about 60 square meters with wooden floor and tapistry walls and has a height of 4, 50 meters. Furthermore the room is equipped with a Steinway D 1960.
From 2015, the owners have been hosting all sorts of ensembles.
“We spent a wonderful week at Château de Saint-Loup […] The owners create a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere and are constantly doing everything they can to make life easy for the musicians. They have many years of experience in hosting musicians and devote a great deal of effort to bringing music to this historic house. Their passion makes this an ideal place for musicians to relax and focus on their rehearsals.
The Château is a fascinating place with much of both the exterior and interior still in its original state.
The piano is a Steinway Grand (D) and it is in very good condition. The owners had it tuned during our stay so it was in very good shape for our rehearsals and the concert.
In a rural area without many concerts, the regular concerts at the Château de Saint-Loup are clearly an important contribution to the community.
All in all, this was an unforgettable week at a unique place and we highly recommend it to any ensembles looking for a place to focus on their music in an inspring environment.”
