The Azalaïs Quartet is a very united ensemble which shares common principles regarding music production, always keeping an open mind ready to create, combine and exchange ideas.
In concert they offer what they would like to receive as an audience.
The quartet started their adventure in 2018 when the four musicians encouraged by their passion for chamber music started playing together at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (the Netherlands).
Their name honors Azalaïs de Porcairagues, one of the first female troubadours that composed during the late twelfth century.
The music interests of the ensemble are various and range from ancient to contemporary music: from rediscovering classic works of the string quartet repertoire to collaborating with young composers in the creation of new pieces.
In its concerts the Azalaïs Quartet combines renowned and emerging music.
The ensemble is mentored by Janet Krause and Cuarteto Casals. They have attended masterclasses with professors such as Hatto Beyerle, Patrick Jüdt, Stephan Picard, Eberhard Feltz, Jon Thorne, Eva Stegeman, and Jan Ype Nota.
They have performed in the Kleine Zaal of Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Nieuwe Kerk (Den Haag), TivoliVredenburg, (Utrecht), HARMOS Festival (Portugal), and Olivar de Castillejo Foundation (Madrid), among other venues.
They are kindly supported by the Dutch foundation “Stichting Young Notables”.
In 2021, the ensemble has been selected to join Le Dimore del Quartetto network.
