The quartet was born out of a shared desire to explore the great chamber music repertoire of the 18th and 19th centuries, with Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven as the most valuable exponents, with a historically informed view.
Indeed, the quartet uses copies of original instruments, autograph scores or first editions wherever possible, and they pay special attention to minor composers and unpublished or recently rediscovered scores.
In this regard, in fact, in November 2020, the Urania Records record label released their Integrale dei Quartetti by Como composer Francesco Pasquale Ricci as a world premiere.
Their musical journey led them to want to pay homage to the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach, with the reference in the very name of their quartet to his keyboard composition “Aria Variata Alla Maniera Italiana” in A minor BWV 989.
They make use of material in the archives of prestigious international music and musicological research organizations and institutions such as L’Archivio della Sinfonia Milanese and the Centro di Ricerche Musicali lvbeethoven.it for the realization of concerts and recordings.
They are based in Como and since 2020 have been included in the network of Le Dimore del Quartetto.
