ABBAZIA DI MIRASOLE, OPERA (MI)

Categories , ,

In the southern area of the city of Milan, in the little town of Opera, there’s Mirasole Abbey. It was founded between the XII and the XIII Century by the religious order of “Umiliati”. It represents one of the most precious examples of Grangia, a rural housing unit built for agricultural and social purposes. Indeed, Mirasole Abbey was built as farmhouse for women who lost their legal status, widows or poor people. Today, the Abbey is managed by Progetto Mirasole Impresa Sociale and Fondazione Progetto Arca, which work to preserve the 13 rooms of the Abbey and, at the same time, to guarantee hospitality to people in need of help. Mirasole is also a place for Culture and experimentation of new ways of Communities engagement and development. More than 1200 people can be hosted in the different spaces of the Abbey, plunging themselves in the Beauty close to the Big City.
