2024 has been an incredible year, ensuring strong continuity for both our institutional activities and our European platform for the promotion of emerging artists, thanks to the positive outcome of the Creative Europe call. The evolution and dissemination of classical music have become essential in bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary audiences. The creation and development of the MERITA platform stand as a testament to this commitment, introducing an innovative program for training and capacity-building designed to revolutionize the chamber music landscape. Launched in September 2023, this pioneering initiative focuses on the ability of string quartets to design original projects that highlight the unique and profound identity of each ensemble, engaging new and diverse audiences. What sets our social enterprise apart is its multifaceted approach. It delves into crucial areas such as fostering interactions between professional musicians and vulnerable communities, reshaping the classical concert experience by transforming venues into multimedia theaters, and strengthening the connection between chamber music and younger generations.
Through MERITA, Musica con Vista, Do Re Milano, The String Circle, Backstage Conversations, and all our other initiatives, Le Dimore del Quartetto embarks on a transformative mission, fostering innovation, diversity, and accessibility in the field of classical music. We are building a network among some of the most prominent players in Europe, aiming to chart new paths for string quartets and leading chamber music ensembles worldwide.
It is precisely this network-driven approach that allows us to build a future for this new generation of artists and audiences, a future that, as Gustav Mahler wrote, is not merely about “worshipping the ashes” but about “preserving the flame.” And to keep this flame alive, it must be fueled by experimentation, outreach, innovation, and circulation. This is where the network becomes crucial, through the exchange of best practices, the use of common tools and shared standards that enable logical, constructive, and sustainable dialogue, a dialogue that makes none of us feel alone.
These initiatives not only promise to elevate the skills of emerging ensembles but also redefine the very essence of classical music outreach in today’s world, creating an original offering capable of reaching audiences beyond traditional music lovers.
In a time that demands new environmental and social responsibilities, it is essential to promote cultural projects that avoid waste and unnecessary consumption, while fostering social cohesion through sustainable processes, with no disposable materials, and with a clear focus on making a positive impact on communities.
In an era marked by wars and conflicts and dominated by digital communication in all its forms, chamber music, and even more so, the string quartet, remains the most human and moving message our society can express. An ambassador of dialogue, diversity, and passionate youth engagement that knows no boundaries, it resonates from royal courts to prisons, leaving no one behind, because beauty is a right for all.
