MUSA – European young MUsicians soft Skills Alliance is a European vocational training project for young string quartets. It aims to provide them with entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and competences that are usually missing in their curriculum although fundamental for their professional career.
MUSA is addressed to young professional string quartets specialized in the classical chamber music repertoire and composed by musicians between 20 and 35 years old who regularly work together.
MUSA 2020-2022 is born as a pilot edition that has developed in 3 different countries and has explored the following topics:
1. Italy, September 2021 | The string quartet image strategy
2. Portugal, October 2021 | Cross-fertilization among the arts
3. France, May 2022 | Recording and market distribution, physical and mental preparation
In each country, the quartets have experienced one week of artistic residency in historic houses and other places of cultural interest, classes and workshops on the specific topics, and concerts, thanks to which they have had the opportunity to put in practice the lessons learnt in front of an audience.
The first pilot edition of MUSA has ended in October 2022 with a final presentation event in Brussels.
At the end of the project, it has been released a Handbook for higher training programs in cultural entrepreneurship for young musicians and a Research on the educational and social values of European cultural heritage as economic and employment driver, together with a set of Guidelines that are useful to all the organizations that in the future could embrace the MUSA format for the vocational training of young musicians.
MUSA is co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union as Strategic Partnership to support innovation (Key Action 2).
The strategic partnership is composed by: Le Dimore del Quartetto S.r.l. Impresa Sociale as Leading Organisation, IED – Istituto Europeo di Design and ASK – Centre for Research on Management and Economics of Arts and Culture Institutions of University Bocconi in Milan for Italy, ProQuartet – Centre européen de musique de chambre in Paris and La Ferme de Villefavard en Limousin in Villefavard for France, and by experimentadesign in Lisbon for Portugal.
