From wood to sound for a new life for Europe’s longest-living silver fir, the Avez del Prinzep

ANIMA is a project for the creation of a string quartet realize by Maestro luthier Gianmaria Stelzer with soundboards and a spruce core from Avez del Prinzep, a historic and monumental tree in the Cimbri Highlands, in the municipality of Lavarone, which crashed in 2017 at about 250 years of age and 52 metres in height.

The project, born from an idea and under the artistic direction of Giovanni Costantini and promoted by the Avez del Prinzep Enhancement Committee, in partnership with MUSE and the Municipality of Lavarone and under the patronage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, aims to give a new life to this monumental tree and recount the natural and artisanal characteristics of its transition from wood to sound.
