CRISTINA TRIVULZIO DI BELGIOJOSO | 150 Years
More than a commemoration, a starting point
Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso, a personality with a thousand faces – patriot, journalist, publisher, entrepreneur, traveler – throughout her life she challenged conventions, exercising her freedom in a world that recognized these virtues only to men.
On the occasion of the 150° anniversary of her death, Fondazione Brivio Sforza, in collaboration with Le Dimore del Quartetto, promotes the installation of the First Statue in Milan dedicated to a Woman, Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso. A four-landmarks itinerary from June to September 2021 goes through four emblematic places of Cristina Trivulzio’s life, revealing her wide-ranging personality, with the aim of shining a spotlight on her extraordinary life and work and to suggest a starting point for a broader collective recognition of women’s action in history and in the contemporary time. Each event opens with a conversation curated by Paola Dubini (Bocconi University) who, taking her cue from Cristina Trivulzio’s life and writings, discusses today’s challenges with four oustanding women, our “contemporary Cristinas”. This is followed by an open-air string quartet concert, with music from the 19th century combined with original and unpublished works by young contemporary composers.

The events are free and open to the public upon reservation

ÃTMA QUARTET
The authors of this new playlist are the musicians of the Ãtma Quartet, with no doubt among the best young promises of the international concert scene.
The pieces they propose take us to their homeland, Poland, through three of its most significant composers: Szymanowski, Panufnik and Penderecki. A fascinating journey in chamber music that from the 20th century brings us up to the present day.
A glimpse that allows us to listen to how musical language has transformed in the centuries of our time and how it did so in radically different ways despite the common origin of the three composers,
The performances are remarkable. What fascinates us is the sound, the colors, the intensity of Ãtma's interpretation.
Capable of characterizing each piece by enhancing its peculiarities, differences and revealing its structure, the four musicians succeed in connecting these three works, so close and so far, to a single common denominator: beauty.

"When I have understood that in Milan there is no statue dedicated to a woman, I have winced. It has seemed incredible to me that in our city there isn't a tangible sign of the fundamental contribution of women in history. For this reason, I have given my full support to the installation of a statue dedicated to Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso. A cultured, determined and resourceful woman, that well represents Milan's spirit. Her statue will make our City a better place; it will be the occasion to stop and think about the delays on the path toward gender equality.
Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan
"And today, 150 years since [Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso] her passing, Fondazione Brivio Sforza, under the patronage of the municipality of Milano and in collaboration with the Creative Cultural Enterprise Le Dimore del Quartetto, has commissioned a life-sized bronze statue. It represents the characteristics of this heroin of the past and it expresses a modern femininity. We will have to wait until September 15th to see it in all its glory: on that day, the statue will be installed in Piazza Belgioioso, next to the homonymous palace where she married."
"If this summer you opt for proximity tourism, we suggest you a beautiful initiative, to which our magazine is media partner: Musica con Vista 2021. The chamber music festival organized by Comitato AMUR with Le Dimore del Quartetto and Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane, that includes 16 concert societies for 38 open-air concerts, from June to September, in gardens, cloisters and courtyards of Historic Houses and other historic buildings. These events represent an invitation to discover the territory, a nice way to support local businesses and most of all the artists that will perform after a long time."
"A wide-spread itinerary immersed in beauty that makes us acknowledge how Culture can be transformed into a resource when the organizations behind it are able to create a system. All of this is fundamental to make the classical music sector sustainable: from hiring the musicians with dignified cachets, to inclusive tickets for reaching a more and more numerous audience."
Francesca Moncada (Founder Le Dimore del Quartetto, President Comitato AMUR)
