Paola Dubini:
the magic of Slow Tourism

PAOLA DUBINI

helps us reflect on the importance of Slow Tourism, get yourself inspired.

"This year brings new meanings to many words: slow tourism was considered a boring, marginal activity.

In reality, it has always been an accessible privilege to be able to linger in a place, regain possession of our senses as a source of knowledge, train our gaze to stop on details, return to places to find a memory or to open up to new suggestions.
And this attitude, with the pandemic, has ceased to be considered "snobbish", but has become practice for many, crossing generations.
I believe that in these months many of us have been pleasantly surprised by the discovery of magical, interesting or pleasant places just a step away from home, or have been able to rediscover family homes and their stories that have given meaning to territories and communities. Even the word tourism itself has changed meaning: with a greatly reduced mobility, the neighborhood has become the unit of space and therefore the city has also appeared as a destination, in which the individual monuments have returned to appear in their majesty..."

THE BREATHTAKING VIEW OF COMO LAKE

ALBERGO TERMINUS AND HOTEL VILLA FLORI, LOMBARDY
dimore quartetto Villa Flori Raimondi terrazza
The unexpected is the detail that transforms the excellence of Lake Como in an unforgettable vacation

When you choose a vacation in Italy, on Lake Como, in a Luxury or charming structure like Lario Hotels, you expect everything for which Lake Como and its surroundings are famous. A lush nature made of green, a lot of green, but also blue, water and sky. And very high mountains, overlooking all that blue. The culture, the architecture, the tradition, the art. The cuisine, so Italian, yet so close to the rest of Europe.

HOTEL VILLA FLORI, CERNOBBIO

Villa Flori, a 4 star luxury hotel, likes to reveal itself only to those who enter the park. It likes to show itself in all its elegance, with original furniture, stucco, floral frescoes, wooden floors, boiserie on the walls, and then, surprise again with modern details.

The story of Villa Flori begins in 1859, when the Marquis Giorgio Raimondi, decided to enlarge a pre-existing villa to gift it to his daughter Guseppina Garibaldi for her wedding with Giuseppe Garibaldi.
While Giuseppe Garibaldi felt in love with the girl since their first encounter, it appears that the young lady did not correspond his love, preferring one of his officers.
Dimore Quartetto Villa Flori
After an intense correspondence, on January 24th 1860, the wedding was celebrated, but it was shortly after annulled because the young Marquise decided to follow her heart. It might be for this reason that in the hotel you can still feel a romantic XIX century atmosphere.

To the Raimondi family is dedicate in tribute the restaurant that still carries their name, that features a large interior room with a view and a terrace on the lake, from which you can admire a romantic panorama. There are many other spaces with a lakeview, in addition of course to the rooms with a private terrace, from the conference and events rooms, to the Lounge Bar with a terrace, on the first floor.

ALBERGO TERMINUS, COMO

Built in 1900 by architect Italo Zanolini to celebrate the centenary of the first electric battery, an invention of Alessandro Volta, the name Terminus recalls its original function as the "thermal spa" of the nearby Grand Hotel Plinius.
The lobby of the hotel preserves intact the luxury and elegance of the Belle Epoque, with its spectacular loggia and furnishings in pure Art Nouveau style, the cast iron railings and lamps, the delicate stucco on the walls, the quiet paintings of the Lombard twentieth century.

Perfectly located in the city center, two minutes away from the Como Cathedral and just in front of the lake, Terminus is the ideal point of departure to visit the beauties of the city and to comfortably reach, by boat, the picturesque villages on the lake.
The splendid location is enriched by the Bar Delle Terme, a restaurant, as intimate in its interior room as it is spacious in its lakefront terrace, which offers a traditional Italian cuisine with some international touch, as well as an unforgettable view of the lake.

READING RECOMMENDATIONS

During your vacations, take the opportunity to relax and dedicate yourself to some interesting reading. We recommend "Complice la notte" (available in Italian only), a novel written by the journalist and writer Giuseppina Manin, authoritative signature of the Entertainment and Culture pages of the Corriere della sera and a great supporter of Le Dimore del Quartetto since ever.

PLOT
"It happens at night. A night in early March 1953. The rustle of the needle digs into the groove of a spinning record. One would think that the man lying on the couch was asleep if it weren't for his inert hand, stretched out towards the floor almost as if looking for support. In the dacha of Kuntsevo, a handful of kilometers from Moscow, inside a forest of oaks and pines, maples and birches, all is silence now. The snow falls without respite, covering every noise except that insistent rubbing on the shellac of the 78 rpm record, Mélodyia editions, listened to so many nights, and even that last one. Mozart, who knows by what secret ways, had managed to reach the dark area of the soul of Iosif Vissarionovič Džugašvili, aka Stalin, to the point of bringing him to tears. But it was not only the music that upset him. It was who was performing it: pianist Marija Judina..."
